T.F., 14 years old

“Sarah has helped us through a lot: [foster mom and I] communicating with each other better, helping all of us with advice and getting through things, and so much more! I dissociate a lot and Sarah has helped with that. She is one of the best people I have.

M.H., 10 years old

“Usually I like the other person to do most of the talking but she got me to open up.

Mindfulness-Based Play-Family Therapy

When a child is struggling, it can affect the whole family.

Play therapy works best for kids with specific fears, anxieties, behavioral concerns, or with traumatic experiences to process. I received training in a model called the Mindfulness-Based Play-Family Therapy by Dottie Higgins Klein. This model has a four session intake process to help me understand the dynamics in the family and uses evidence based methods that enable children to work through and heal from experiences through the power of symbolic play. Parents meet with me after every four sessions with the child to collaborate on their progress and receive support from me. I only offer play therapy in-person.

Ages 3-12

It’s so difficult when home feels stressful. This coaching package is for families who need to reduce chaos and nurture connection. It’s best for those with multiple kids under the age of 12 who want to refresh their parenting toolbox with developmentally-specific ideas and advice.

It includes:

  • An initial consultation with parents only, in-person or online (1 hour)

  • An in-home observation visit from me, usually after school and work into bedtime (3-4 hours)

  • Three follow-up coaching sessions with parents only, in-person or online (1 hour), scheduled at your convenience. Psychoeducation around the developmental stage of your child or children, identifying main barriers for parents, recommendations for interacting with your kids, and suggestions for changes in routine or home environment.

  • Notes from these sessions shared with you, so they’re easy to find later!

  • Extra sessions available for additional issues that may crop up

Pricing can be found on the services and fees page.

Coaching for Parents

V.J., a foster parent of 14 year old T.

“As a brand-new foster parent, it was tough for me to find my footing and address the many challenges my first placement faced. Sarah was a fantastic resource for both of us; T considers her one of their most trusted people, and I have very much valued the opportunities we've had for both individual and joint coaching with Sarah. T has been a part of the family for two years, and we wouldn't have found our rhythm as easily or as quickly as we did with Sarah's help.”

J.B., parent of 10 year old B.B.

“Sarah is thoughtful and candid. I knew my child thrived with her attention and feedback. I value the care and discernment she brought to supporting my daughter.”
